5,6, F* IT UP !

(aka Break A Leg aka Goodluck!)

What is the Heelogy Troupe?

Heelogy Troupe is a long-term performance team committed to developing disciplined, confident, and versatile performers. This team is shaped through rehearsals, performances, competitions, and creative projects. As a team, we train with purpose, strengthen our heels foundation, and shape each other through movement and mindset!
It’s the ultimate level of discipline where Shapers:
🏆 Rehearse choreographies for performances, competitions, and creative projects
🏆 Learn how to adapt and perform under pressure
🏆 Build the discipline required to show up consistently, even when things get challenging
🏆 Experience the pride that comes from working toward a shared goal

At some point in your heels journey, you start asking yourself:

“What’s next?”

The Heelogy Troupe is for Shapers who want to be part of something bigger. They want to represent the academy’s discipline, confidence, and bravery at a whole new level. For six months, you’ll train, perform, travel, compete, and evolve alongside a team of Shapers who are committed to becoming the strongest version of themselves.

We won first place at the Waterloo Heels Championship 2025! 🏆

❓"Can I audition if I’ve never taken a Heelogy class before?"

Yes! As long as you have at least 3 years of heels dance experience, you are welcome to apply.

Requirements

"Am I ready for Troupe?"
✅ Foundation: You have at least 3 years of heels dance experience and a strong foundation in heels dance fundamentals.
✅ Retention: You are comfortable retaining choreography at an accelerated pace.
✅ Independent Practice: You are willing to review and practice material independently between rehearsals.
✅ Coachability: You’re open to feedback, corrections, and coaching throughout the season.
✅ Resilience: You’re willing to manage performance nerves, pressure, and stressful situations with maturity.
✅ Adaptability: You adapt quickly to unexpected opportunities, choreography changes, formation changes, and performance adjustments. You understand that formations, featured moments, and stage placements may change throughout the season based on the needs of the performance.
✅ Professionalism: You approach every rehearsal, competition, performance, and troupe-related opportunity with a professional mindset. You are representing an international heels dance academy.
✅ Team Mentality: You prioritize the success of the team over attachment to a specific spot, formation, or role.

❓"How many spots are available?"

We are accepting 10 shapers into this season.

Level: Intermediate

This level is for Shapers who understand the foundations of heels technique, such as walks, floorwork, and single turns. Shapers at this level focus on strengthening choreography retention and coordination. They can follow choreography at a steady pace and apply corrections promptly without needing reminders of foundational technique like pointing the toes, turning out the foot, or engaging the core.

We always celebrate the end of the season with a team photoshoot 📸

❓"How experienced do I need to be to join?"

You need at least 3 years of heels dance experience, but you do not need professional performance experience. You should feel confident with heels dance fundamentals, be able to retain choreography at an accelerated pace, and be willing to practice outside of rehearsals every week.

Rehearsal Schedule

❓"What if I miss some rehearsals?"

Absences are understandable! Uncommunicated absences are not. Because the troupe is a team-based experience, members are expected to communicate any known absences as early as possible. If you know you will miss a rehearsal, please provide advance notice so choreography, formations, and team planning can be adjusted accordingly. Multiple absences may impact your eligibility for certain performances, formations, leadership roles, and other troupe opportunities.

❓"Does the class credit policy apply to Troupe?"

Due to the team-based nature of the troupe, the standard Heelogy class credit policy does not apply. Troupe rehearsals, performances, competitions, and special events are designed to be experienced with the team and cannot be transferred, credited, or made up at a later date. If you miss a rehearsal, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the workshops included in your troupe membership to continue your training and development. Shapers are also responsible for reviewing tutorials and catching up on any missed material.

❓"Are all performances mandatory?"

No. Throughout the season, we’ll have multiple performance opportunities. You’ll decide which ones you’re available and able to commit. While we strongly encourage troupe members to participate in as many performances as possible, we understand that schedules, finances, travel, and personal circumstances can sometimes get in the way. ❓"How much time should I expect to dedicate outside of rehearsals?"

Troupers should expect to spend time reviewing choreography, practicing independently, and completing any assigned preparation between rehearsals. The exact amount will vary throughout the season, but a weekly 1-2 hour practice outside of class is going to set you up for success.

❓"Do I need to have performance experience to audition?"

No! Previous performance experience is not required. We are looking for Shapers who demonstrate strong potential, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to growth.

❓"Will you be performing with us?"

Yes and no 😊 I will be part of certain performances and video shoots throughout the season, but not all. My main role is to support, coach, and mentor the team behind the scenes. During every project, I’ll be there for mental support, feedback, help with logistics, and making sure you feel prepared.

❓"I’m nervous about the thought of performing. Should I still audition?"

That’s completely normal! Nobody joins the troupe because they’re already 100% confident performing. They join because they want to BECOME more confident on stage. Throughout the season, you’ll receive support, coaching, and opportunities to gradually build confidence in front of an audience.

Additional Investments

The following expenses are not included in your troupe membership:

👠 Costumes

Costumes are not included in the troupe membership.
Troupers will be required to purchase their own costumes for performances, competitions, photoshoots, and other special projects. Costume links and ordering instructions will be provided by Coach Shaping Sarah, and Troupers will be responsible for placing their own orders.
To help you plan ahead, we anticipate approximately 3 costumes throughout the season with a maximum budget of $100 per costume.

🥇 Competition Registration Fees

Competitions require an individual registration fee in order to participate. These fees are set by the event organizers and are not included in the troupe membership.
To give you an idea, the registration fee for our 2025 competition was approximately $90 per Shaper.
Whenever possible, competition fees and payment deadlines will be communicated well in advance so you can plan accordingly.

🚘 Travel/Accomodation

Certain performance and competition opportunities may take place outside of Montreal. In these cases, Troupers are responsible for their own transportation, accommodations, meals, and any related travel expenses.
To give you an idea, during the 2025 season, troupe members organized carpools to Waterloo and shared hotel rooms to help reduce costs. While every event is different, the team often works together to coordinate travel arrangements and make opportunities as low cost as possible.
Travel details, estimated costs, and deadlines will be communicated in advance so you can plan accordingly.

❓"Are costumes included?"

No. Each Trouper is responsible for purchasing their own costumes using the links provided by the Heelogy team. We recommend budgeting maximum $100 maximum per costume throughout the season. To give you an idea, troupe members will likely require maximum 3 costumes for performances, competitions, photoshoots, and creative projects.

❓"What is the difference between Troupe and other Heelogy programs?"

Regular programs are between 4-6 weeks and don’t involve performances. Troupe is a long-term performance team that includes rehearsals, competitions, performances, photoshoots, video projects, coaching, leadership opportunities, and ongoing technical development throughout the season.

What Makes the Heelogy Troupe Different?

1️⃣ Strong Team Culture

Everything we do is rooted in the values that define Heelogy: discipline, confidence, and bravery. Beyond learning choreography, we’re committed to helping you become a a stronger version of yourself inside and outside of the studio.

2️⃣ Structured Technique Curriculum

Instead of solely focusing on choreography, each month will be dedicated to a specific technique focus, including balance, flexibility, turns, and more. This will help you become a more versatile and well-rounded Trouper.

3️⃣ Video Feedback & Tutorials

At Heelogy, we believe your growth happens outside of rehearsals. That’s why you’ll have access to video tutorials throughout the season so you can continue learning and practicing between classes. Let’s be real. Sometimes you’re tired after work, sometimes you’re focused on the wrong thing during class, orsometimes someone asks a question and you’re still trying to process the correction you just received. It happens!
Through video tutorials and video feedback, you’ll have the tools and support needed to continue improving throughout the week. This allows you to take ownership of your progress and arrive at rehearsals feeling more prepared and less overwhelmed.

❓"What happens if I am not accepted?"

Not being accepted this season does not mean you don’t belong here. It simply means that another Heelogy program may be a better fit for your current stage of growth. All applicants will be given recommendations of what they should improve for the rest of the year so they are more prepared for the 2027 auditions!

“The Shapers who grow the fastest aren’t always the ones who pick up choreography quickly. They’re the ones who take ownership of their learning and put in the work outside of rehearsals.”

Coach Shaping Sarah

❓"How many opportunities will we have to perform this season?"

We currently have 7 performances and creative projects planned for the season. The dates are already shown on the website under “Performance Schedule.” We’re going to be booked and busy! Please note that performance opportunities are subject to change throughout the season. Additional opportunities may be added as they arise, while others may be modified based on event logistics. We will always do our best to communicate updates as early as possible so Troupers can plan accordingly.

Beyond The Troupe

And if you want to go even further…

1️⃣ Small Groups & Solo Opportunities

Throughout the season, troupe members may have the opportunity to perform a solo, duet, or small group piece at select competitions and performances.
You will have two options:
🏆 Create Your Own Choreography: Perform a piece that you choreograph yourself. This option gives you complete creative control over the concept, transitions, formations, and artistic direction of your performance.
🏆 Perform a Heelogy Choreography: you may request to perform an existing Heelogy choreography. To ensure the piece is performed safely and correctly, a minimum of three private coaching sessions is required. During these sessions, you’ll learn the choreography, receive personalized feedback, and develop your interpretation of the piece.

2️⃣ Teacher Assistant Opportunities (Paid)

Interested in becoming a dance educator one day? Selected troupe members may have the opportunity to assist Sarah during classes, workshops, and special events. As a teacher assistant, you’ll gain hands-on experience in:
🏆 Leading warm-ups and exercises
🏆 Supporting dancers during class
🏆 Demonstrating choreography and technique
🏆 Providing encouragement and guidance to students
🏆 Understanding class structure and lesson planning
🏆 Developing leadership and communication skills
This opportunity is for Troupers who are interested in learning what happens behind the scenes and exploring the role of a dance educator.

3️⃣ Ambassador Opportunities (Paid)

Troupe members who demonstrate strong alignment with the Heelogy mission may be invited to apply for the Heelogy Ambassador Team.
As an ambassador, you’ll have the opportunity to play a larger role within the Heelogy community by having your personalized discount code, creating content, assisting in the creative process, supporting events, and representing the values. Ambassador opportunities are ideal for Shapers who are passionate about community building and helping shape the future of Heelogy. This pathway allows Shapers to develop skills in communication, mentorship, content creation, event support, and community engagement while becoming a stronger voice within the Heelogy Academy.

❓"Can I submit an old choreography video?"

Yes! You are welcome to submit a choreography video that was filmed previously. Just make sure to choose a video that accurately reflects your current skill level and technique 😊

❓"Do I have to submit a Heelogy choreography video?"

No! The choreography video can be from any instructor you've learned from in the past. However, the technique video must be the one that you will be assigned upon registering to audition.
